Features

The software allows one to enter all Gujarati text by spelling the word in English using K-Script notation (described in the September 1999 issue of Kesuda). K-script permits very intuitive way to spell Gujarati word in English. All files are saved in English. These files are 'readable' without any computer with very little training. For example you can read 'kesUdA^ ek saras ane su^Dar megezin chhe." without effort.

The software comes equipped to use two fonts "Gopika" and "vakil". For display on the screen, the user may select from the menu a font he wishes to use for output. The software uses a Font-Inforamtion (FI) File and generates an output suitable for the selected fonts. There several thing you could do now.

1 The text can be directly printed using GujWritey.

2 Using the cut-and-paste mechanism, the text may be pasted in your favorite word-processor. You may selectively change font sizes, make text bold or format it any way you like and finally save/print it.

3 Generate an HTML file that can be shipped so any one can look at it through the browser(provided that he has the appropriate fonts loaded.

The real beauty is that changing the fonts need not require the K-script file to be modified. For any new fonts all you need is corresponding FI file. Creating FI file needs special skills but is a one-time effort only. If a font designer can supply corresponding FI files, users need only to select the new FI file to be in business. You can then use the prevously entered text and print it out using with new fonts.

An example:
K-Script Input Selected Font FI File for Output Text How it looks
kesUdA^ Gopika Gopika fum²ztk
kesUdA^ Vakil_01 Vakil_01 kosaUDaM

Those who are interested in generating FI files for different fonts may contact us seperately. The software does not include tools for that purpose.
